Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 7, 2026
1. Introduction
Habit Tycoon ("we", "us", "our") is a gamified habit-tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the app, how we use it, and the choices you have.
2. Information We Collect
- Account information. You can try the app's guided tour without an account; we then create a temporary anonymous account with no personal details. When you create a real account, you sign in with Apple, Google, or an email address and password. We receive your name and email address from the provider you choose (and, for Google, your profile photo). If you use a password, it's handled by our authentication provider and stored only in hashed form; we never see it.
- Gameplay data. The habits you create, check-ins, streaks, virtual currency, businesses, stock and 401(k) activity, and achievements.
- Social data. Your display name, handle, friend connections, posts, challenges, and reactions, which are visible to the friends you connect with.
- Purchase data. If you subscribe to a Habit Tycoon Membership, the purchase is processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your purchase and your subscription status, never your payment card details.
- Apple Health data (optional). If you create a habit tied to Apple Health, the app asks for permission to read the matching Health data: steps, exercise minutes, active calories, sleep, stand hours, mindful minutes, flights climbed, workouts, and water intake. We never write to Apple Health. See "Apple Health Data" below.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a push notification token for your device so we can send you reminders and friend activity.
- Camera. The camera is used only to scan a friend's QR code. Scanning happens on your device, and no images are saved or uploaded.
- Feedback. Bug reports and feature requests you choose to send.
- Device & technical data. Basic device and operating system information needed to run the app, and network connectivity status.
3. How We Use Information
- To create and manage your account
- To operate gameplay: habits, check-ins, the in-game economy, and achievements
- To power social features, like friends, leaderboards, and challenges
- To check your Health habits against your Apple Health data and mark them complete when you reach your goal
- To manage your membership and give you access to what you've paid for
- To send notifications you've allowed
- To respond to feedback and support requests
- To maintain, secure, and improve the app
We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
4. Apple Health Data
Apple Health is optional. The app only asks to read Health data after you create a Health habit, and you can decline or change access at any time.
- Stays on your device. Your Health readings are read and compared against your goal on your device. The readings themselves are not sent to our servers or to any third party.
- What we do store. For a Health habit we store the metric and daily goal you chose (for example, "steps" and 8,000) and, when you reach the goal, an ordinary habit check-in, the same record a manual check-in creates. Like any habit, a Health habit's name, streak, and check-ins can be visible to your friends, so choose habit names you're comfortable sharing.
- Not for advertising or sale. We do not use Health data for advertising or marketing, do not sell it, and do not share it with data brokers, advertisers, or other third parties.
5. Third-Party Services
We rely on a small number of service providers to run the app:
- Supabase: authentication, database, and backend functions
- RevenueCat: subscription management
- Apple: sign-in, payment processing, and push notifications
- Google: if you choose to sign in with Google
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers above, as necessary to operate the app, or when required by law. We never share Apple Health data with any third party.
7. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on Supabase's managed infrastructure in the United States. We use reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect it, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Your Choices & Rights
- Update your display name at any time in Settings.
- Turn off Apple Health access at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → Habit Tycoon. Your Health habits then stop completing automatically, and you can still check them off yourself.
- Turn off notifications at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
- Delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This is permanent. It doesn't cancel your membership; cancel that in your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Contact us with any privacy questions or requests, including requests to access or correct your data.
9. Children's Privacy
Habit Tycoon is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
10. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed except where we're required to keep it, such as for legal or fraud-prevention reasons. If you leave the guided tour by choosing not to create an account, the anonymous account and everything made in the tour are deleted right away.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, let you know in the app.
